These instructions pertain to email being hosting on an SME Linux server using IMAP.

The screenshots below are from an iPhone, but they look similar to the iPad screens.

Before you start, you will need:

  • Your email address
  • Your user name, which is usually your first name and initial, or sometimes just your first name.
  • Your password
  • Your server's host name
These will have been given to you by one of our team.

You will also need to make sure that your device has a good internet connection.

1. Go to Settings

2. Go to Accounts and Passwords

3. You'll see a list of accounts. At the bottom of this list, you'll see Add Account. Tap this.

4. Tap on Other

5. Tap Add Mail Account

6. Fill in your details on the New Account screen. You should generally use your full name. Use the email address you've been given.

7. Tap Next

8. Under Incoming mail server fill in your details as follows:

Host name has been given to you by one of our team

User name is your user name that you've been given by one of us

Password is as you've been given by us but it should be already filled in

9. As you scroll further down you'll see another heading Outgoing mail server -  please fill this in as follows

Host name as given by one of our team (as above)

User name is your user name that you've been given by one of us

Password is as you've been given by us

10. The screen should look something like this

11. Tap Next at the top
12. You may get a screen that says that it cannot verify server identity.

13. Tap on Details

14. Tap Trust on the top right

15. You may get a screen elling you that it cannot connect using SSL. Tap No
16. The screen will say verifying at the top for possibly a few minutes. You may get the message in step 12 again, if you do, then follow from step 12 again
16. Finally, you'll get a screen with tick marks on it.

17. Tap Save
18. You'll see the list of accounts again. Tap on the account you've just created.

19. Tap on your email address

20. You should get a screen like this:

21. Tap where it says "SMTP"

22. Tap where it shows your email server

23. Tap where it shows "server port 25" and change it to 465

24. Tap Done, and wait while it says verifying

The final stage is to tell the email program where to put sent mail:

25. Tap on <Account at the top of the screen

26. Tap Advanced at the bottom

27. You should get a screen that looks like this:

(advanced screen)

28. Tap Sent Mailbox

29. (folder list) scroll down to sent folder and tap that (make sure it's ticked)

30. Tap on <advanced at the top

31. Tap on <account at the top

33. Tap Done

Now the email should have been added to your inboxes if you go to the Mail app on your iPhone or iPad.

Do check your mail, and then there's one last thing to do which is to tell the iPhone to put sent mail in the correct sent folder. Your sent folder is either sent-mail or sent depending on setup.

  1. Go to settings then mail, contacts, calendars
  2. Choose the email account you just set up
  3. Tap the account name again on the next screen
  4. Tap Advanced
  5. Tap Sent Mailbox
  6. Under the part where it says on the server choose the correct sent folder (either sent-mail or sent)
  7. Tap <Advanced at the top, then <Account
  8. Tap Done

If you are still having difficulty, please let us know. If you were sent here by an email, please reply to it. Otherwise just send an email to support@anthian.co.uk

Kind regards
Anthony
